Introduction

DECtalk is an excellent text-to-speech synthesis system, and by fiddling around with some of its parameters, we can do a number of clever vocal tricks with it.


MIDI music with DECtalk karaoke sing-along - DECtoke!

During an Honours Project in 1998-99, student Martin Jenkins produced the world's first computer karaoke system which plays the music and sings along at the same time! Here are some examples of the output from the DECtoke program - remember that all the sounds you hear are being synthesised by the computer in real time:


Impersonations 

By altering the DECtalk voice parameters, we have created a few vocal impersonations - here are a some of them.

Singing 

Pitch and duration can be accurately controlled, and with added vibrato, singing can be produced.
