Introduction
DECtalk is an excellent text-to-speech synthesis system, and by fiddling
around with some of its parameters, we can do a number of clever vocal
tricks with it.
MIDI music with DECtalk karaoke sing-along - DECtoke!
During an Honours Project in 1998-99, student Martin Jenkins produced the
world's first computer karaoke system which plays the music and sings
along at the same time! Here are some examples of the output from
the DECtoke program - remember that all the sounds you hear are being
synthesised by the computer in real time:
Impersonations
By altering the DECtalk voice parameters, we have created a few vocal impersonations
- here are a some of them.
These examples are in two forms:
-
if you have DECtalk for Windows NT installed on your system, download
the TEXT into your SPEAK application and play it
-
if not, download the DEMO to hear a WAV clip of part of the
file
-
Clint Eastwood with one of his most famous lines TEXT
DEMO
-
HAL 9000 from "2001:A Space Odyssey" TEXT DEMO
Singing
Pitch and duration can be accurately controlled, and with added vibrato,
singing can be produced.
These examples are in two forms:
-
if you have DECtalk for Windows NT installed on your system, download
the TEXT into your SPEAK application and play it
-
if not, download the DEMO to hear a WAV clip of part of the
file
